— About us —

We have come together to oversee the transition of Uigshader Woodland into a diverse native habitat, to rehabilitate a previously industrialised landscape into a productive community woodland using native species, conserving valuable ecosystems such as deep peat, and in the process delivering benefits to biodiversity and the community. In the longer term, we will seek to provide livelihoods for members of ULFP and the local community, as well as creating opportunities for the enjoyment of the woodland as a recreational resource. Using mindful consensus and expanding through learning and networking, we hope to nurture and celebrate systems of living that impact lightly upon the earth.

We are a collective of like-minded folk of sincere and enthusiastic disposition and between us, a wide variety of experience. We are passionate about the environment and personally strive to live an ethical, environmentally centred lifestyle.

Bill Boggia

I love living in the countryside with its wild landscapes and rugged beauty. I work as a self employed structural engineer in marine renewables and in building construction.

For me the Uigshader project brings together the learning of new skills, deepening my understanding of natures connections, a sense of community, and hope for our shared future.

I feel fortunate to be involved in this exciting and yet grounding restoration project and hope to be enjoying seeing it unfold for many years to come as the woodland comes back to life.

Claire Gordon

My passions are food, travel and the environment. For me, preparing and cooking food is at the centre of everything, be it at work, home, or in the woodland, keeping everyone well fed.

I am currently in the 2nd year of a Fine Art Degree at Moray School of Art

At Uigshader, I'm excited by the prospect of sustainably producing our own food, be it in a forest garden, or foraging around the woodland. I enjoy finding the wee trees around the forest which have self-seeded, and am keen on nurturing areas of natural woodland regeneration.

Ruari Gordon

I have a keen interest in Scotland's history, culture and landscape. As well as playing music, I freelance for SEALL, a Skye based arts organisation, wherein I look after the technical side of live music and arts events across the island.

I am also midway through a degree in Sustainable Development with the University of the Highlands and Islands, which has offered new perspectives to the project at Uigshader, as well as imparting useful skills, such as GIS mapping, allowing me to take on diverse and interesting roles within ULFP.

I am particularly excited about the development of woodland crofts here at Uigshader.

David Blaze Logan

I enjoy the practical side of managing the land at Uigshader. Be it fencing, cutting windblown trees, fixing the Argo, or simply chopping firewood - I'm happiest when my hands are dirty!

My background is in Zoology, Mountain Footpath Construction, and Forestry. Anything that takes me outdoors, whatever the weather, I love it.

Megan Potter

I am passionate about nature, sustainability and growing my own food and this has led me to help develop exciting projects in the places I have lived. After 10 years working as a Midwife, I changed career direction and now work as a path builder, chainsaw operative and on Festival build crews building structures and managing volunteers. Being part of ULFP is such an exciting opportunity to nurture a damaged ecosystem back to health, and make the land at Uigshader available as a resource for the community to enjoy, learn and make sustainable livings from.
