Hello from ULFP! It has been a long time since our last update but don't worry the project is still in full swing, and we're pleased to say that since our last post, big progress has been made.

We were awarded funding to have a deep peat survey carried out on the land. The report has been returned to us confirming over 30 hectares of deep peat which has been identified as worthy of restoration. We are now in discussion with Peatland Action about the possibility of receiving funding to carry out these works. This could throw...

On regular occasions we have watched sea Eagles fly the length of the land and twice now we have witnessed then perch on the treetops that are still standing within the boundary. So taking advice from a wildlife ranger, we positioned a platform atop one of the trees in the area we have seen them, hoping it might encourage them...

Work Week

11/05/2019

We've been making good progress on the fence since our tuition with Pete. But we thought it time to enlist some help. We put the call out and in exchange for some skill swap, hot food and the promise of a wee shindig at the end of the work week, we gathered 14 abled bodies to come and help...

Over the past few years we have been trying to unscramble the world of funding. Many of our future ambitions rely on the construction of a 6km deer fence around the perimeter of the land at a cost of around £60,000. After draining a lot of energy we were getting nowhere, for now it seems as though our project is...

Argocat!

05/25/2019

Although we have all gotten very good at trudging over the landscape, you can't have a conservation project without an ATV... introducing the infamous, amphibious argo. This will help getting to those hard to access boggie bits as well has moving fencing equipment around the land, extracting timber, gathering fire wood etc

The Tool Box

11/15/2018

We've slowly but surely gathered some useful tools, workwear and other handy equipment. So we thought it time for a place to store it. We got ourselves an old sturdy wooden shipping container added a small lean to (with solar panels attached to the top) fitted some shelving, hooks etc and voila a safe secure 'tool box'.

This time around on the land we installed a very luxurious wood fired bath, Thanks to Stella, Isti and Tracey for the heavy lifting!

Woodland Trust has kindly donated 420 of mixed variety trees, including Dog Rose, Hawthorn, Rowan, Birch, Holly, Oak and Hazel. The stock fence around the land is still in quite bad repair so grazing is still going to be a challenge but we put them in, protected by some tree guards and hopefully they will flourish. Over the last few...

We descended onto the land once again with the welfare yurt and a happy helpful crew. Mission this time round was to build the compost throne! Designed by Bill and built using some salvaged materials from the Ballater floods. Urine diverted feeds a compost heap and a wheelie bin to catch the jobby. Once composted it'll feed our new trees....
